VFR COURSE & TEST PREP

Master the Knowledge Behind Safe VFR Flying

A structured ground training and FAA written test prep course for Sport, Recreational, Private and Commercial pilot students, as well as pilots looking for a refresher.

ONE COURSE. FOUR CERTIFICATES

What Is the VFR Course?

VFR stands for Visual Flight Rules, the set of rules pilots use when flying primarily by outside visual reference. Under VFR, pilots must understand the airspace around them, maintain proper weather minimums, navigate safely, communicate when required and make sound decisions throughout the flight.

The My Flight Academy VFR Course & Test Prep is designed to build that foundation step by step. It helps student pilots move beyond memorization and develop the knowledge needed to understand, retain and apply the concepts behind safe VFR flying.

Why One VFR Course for SPL, RPL, PPL and CPL?

The reason we don’t sell separate programs for each pilot certificate type, Sport, Recreational, Private and Commercial, is that in the sky, the level of certificate you hold does not change the general rules you must follow or the risks you may encounter.

This foundational knowledge is crucial for all pilots. That is why we believe a Private Pilot should be as knowledgeable as a Commercial Pilot when it comes to the principles of safe VFR flying.

10 CHAPTERS. 58 LESSONS.

Course Curriculum

The VFR Course is organized in a structured sequence that helps you build strong aeronautical knowledge step by step. Each chapter connects essential rules, concepts and procedures to real flying, while introducing new topics that build on what you’ve already learned.

1.

Aircraft Systems

Discover how all the basic systems of an airplane work, from the engine to the instruments, demystifying the complex mechanisms that power flight.

2.

Aerodynamics

Ever wonder how an aircraft flies? It’s not magic, it’s aerodynamics. This chapter explains the essential concepts behind how an airplane moves through the air.

3.

Performance & Limitations

Learn to compute essential performance numbers for safe flying. This chapter simplifies key calculations and limitations so they are easier to understand and apply.

4.

Airport & Traffic Operations

Learn to navigate the busy airport environment, from traffic patterns and ground operations to communications, runway safety and essential procedures.

5.

Navigation & Flight Planning

Explore airspace, navigation systems and cross-country flight planning, from traditional navigation methods to modern technology.

6.

Weather

Understand how weather affects flying conditions, performance and pilot decisions, including how to interpret information before and during flight.

7.

Aeromedical Factors & ADM

Explore how physiological factors affect pilots in flight and develop critical thinking skills to enhance safety through effective decision-making.

9.

Maneuvers

Understand the aerodynamic principles and environmental factors involved in S-turns, rectangular courses and spins. Additional maneuvers may be added upon request.

8.

Special Flight Operations

Learn the procedures and regulations for handling unusual flight operations, including night and instrument flights, high-altitude operations, and emergency situations.

10.

Documents & Regulations

Learn the documents and regulations that govern flight, including certificate privileges, limitations and what you are legally permitted to do.

Test Prep

After completing all the chapters, use the test prep section to review course questions and strengthen your readiness for the FAA knowledge test.

Resources

Access FAA publications, handbooks, glossaries, official links, pilot checklists and the Video Vault, a selection of external videos for easier review and reinforcement.

MULTIPLE WAYS TO LEARN

Study Materials

Each lesson combines different study materials so you can understand, review and retain the concepts in more than one way. The goal is not only to help you pass the FAA knowledge test, but to build knowledge you can apply in real flying.

Readings & Audio

Study targeted reading assignments with direct links to the online publications. You can also use our 3D flipbooks or purchase paper copies if you prefer. The same material is available in audio format when you want to listen or experience the content in a different way.

Interactive Videos

Watch guided lesson videos built around a dialogue between Alex, the student, and Lean, the instructor. Each video is designed to explain key concepts clearly and connect them to real flying, with helpful features such as chapters, transcripts, subtitles, AirPlay and Chromecast support.

Course Slides

Use the visual slides from the lesson videos to review important ideas, diagrams, examples and key takeaways. They are especially convenient for advanced students and pilots looking for a quick refresher.

Resources

Each lesson connects to the Chapter Resources in the Resources section, where you can access extra videos, websites, documents and supplemental readings for that chapter.

Lesson & Chapters Quizzes

Most lessons include a quiz to check your understanding as you progress, and each chapter ends with a review of the topics from that chapter. Quizzes require 80% or higher to encourage stronger preparation.

Study Checklist

Mark lesson actions, such as readings, videos and resources, as done when you complete them. Your Student Console then updates automatically to reflect your progress, while quiz results are recorded after completion.
